Patricia "Pat" R. Scanlan

Patricia “Pat” R. Scanlan, age 80, of Fennimore passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her beloved family, on Saturday November 9, 2019.

Pat was born in Platteville on March 13, 1939, the daughter of Leo and Inez (Kabele) Hying. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1957. After graduation, Pat worked in Milwaukee for Allis Chalmers.

At the farm of her Uncle Carl and Aunt Edna, Pat met the love of her life, a farmer named Paul Scanlan. Paul and Pat were united in marriage on October 12, 1957 at St. Mary Church in Platteville.

Paul and Pat raised five sons, Mike, Chuck, Steve, Tim and David, and farmed in Fennimore and Stitzer, before buying the home dairy farm in 1965. Pat was a devoted farm wife, raising her children, taking care of the home, and farming along side of her husband. She enjoyed gardening, raking hay and putting up bales on the farm.

In 1987, after her sons had graduated from high school, Pat went to work at Orchard Manor in the laundry department. She worked there for 22 years until her retirement in 2009.

Pat loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She gave much of her time to Queen of All Saints Parish and volunteered many hours with St. Anne’s Sodality serving meals in the St. Mary Church Hall for various events. Pat took many trips with her sisters over the years. She enjoyed having coffee and visiting with her dear friends from church every morning after the 8 AM Mass.

Pat was a very holy lady who attended Mass every day. She had love in her heart for everyone. It was very important to her to always greet each family member and friend with, “I love you,” and she told them again with every farewell.

Surviving are her children, son Mike (Mary) Scanlan of Fennimore and their children Heather Steinbach (Felipe Mora), Sean (Laura) Scanlan, son Chuck (Betty) Scanlan of Stitzer and their children Chancey Scanlan, Chase (Heather) Scanlan, son Steve (Barb) Scanlan of Fennimore and their children Aaron, Travis and Trent Scanlan, son Tim (Amy) Scanlan of Fennimore and their children Julian, Paul, and Henry Graser, John Patrick Scanlan, son David (Angela) Scanlan of Parkersburg, IA and their children Brinna, Boyd and Brody Scanlan, and two great-grandchildren Lila and Kade Scanlan, three sisters, Joyce Brischke of Madison, Jean (Al) Fetterly of Elkhart, KS, and Carolyn Henry of Platteville, brother-in-law Pat Marshall of Summershade, KY, sister-in-law Rosie Hying of Platteville, brother-in-law Leo (Sandy) Scanlan of Benton, and brother-in-law Bernard (Sandy) Scanlan of Fennimore.
