Floyd H. "Tubby" Monroe

Floyd H. “Tubby” Monroe, age 88, of Fennimore, WI passed away on Friday May 24, 2019, at the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, WI. He was born on October 14, 1930, in Boscobel, WI, the son of Henry and Marie (Kreul) Monroe. Tubby was united in marriage to Doris Wehrle on July 15, 1952 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church.

Tubby graduated from Fennimore High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged, Tubby returned to his passion in life, farming. He farmed the “Feniwis Jersey Farm” in Mt. Ida Township for over 30 years and then moved to the city of Fennimore in 1985. Tubby also had a passion for music and enjoyed playing with his father. These journeys lead him to perform throughout the area under the band named, Tony, Paul and Tubby. He also stayed busy fixing sewing machines, making rugs, helping area farmers and fishing. In addition, he was employed for 12 years with the Fennimore School District as a bus driver. He was one of the most loved bus drivers by his peers and children. Tubby will be remembered for his warm selfless personality, willingness to visit with friends and family, and his devotion to his dear wife, children and especially his grandchildren.   

Tubby is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Doris of Fennimore, five children; Cindy Monroe of Mt. Horeb, Mark (Susie) Monroe of Rockdale, TX, Tim (Lori) Monroe of Germantown, Polly Monroe of Verona, Peter (Renee) Monroe of Belleville, 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother Hilton (Phyllis) Monroe of Camanche, IA, sister Elaine (Eldon) Leff of Canon City, CO, and Robin Toole of Tucson, AZ along with several special nieces and nephews.

Tubby was preceded in death by his parents, son Don Monroe, brother Vern Monroe, and sister Dorothy Becker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday June 1, 2019, at the Fennimore United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Friday afternoon May 31, 2019, at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church on Saturday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund is being established on loving memory of Floyd “Tubby” Monroe.
