David C. Conley, age 88, of Fennimore, WI passed away on Saturday morning, May 1, 2021 at his residence. He was born on December 23, 1932 in Woodman Township Grant County, Wisconsin the son of Clement and Clara (Graser) Conley.
Dave attended grade school at Irish Ridge School and graduated from Mt. Hope. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957. Dave was united in marriage to Ruth Palmer on April 15, 1958 at St. Lawrence O’toole Catholic Church. He worked four years at the General Motors plant in Janesville. They were blessed with two children; son Craig and daughter Catherine. Together they farmed near Boscobel for four years then at Werley for 30 years. Dave retired from farming and was employed at the Fennimore Sale Barn for 10 years and the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, along with his wife Ruth, as a custodian for 13 years. David was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, the Mt Hope and Fennimore American Legion. He also served on the St. Mary’s Church Councils and the Mt. Ida Town Board, and a Director for Wisconsin Dairy.
David enjoyed farming, talking politics, was a forever Cubs fan, and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren. He loved to play cribbage with anyone who knew how. After moving to Fennimore, he took up the hobby of making table size cribbage boards. He made 14 in all for his kids, grandkids, and other relatives and friends.
David is survived by his wife Ruth of Fennimore, son Craig (Geralyn) Conley of Fennimore, daughter Catherine (Charlie) Hrubes of Livingston, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, four brothers; Art (Carolyn) Conley of Prairie du Chien, Paul (Ann) Conley of Fennimore, Gregory (Betty) Conley of Woodman, and Peter Conley of Beloit, along with many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents Clement and Clare Conley, two brothers; John and George Conley, three sisters; Rita (Bernard) Kretschman, Barbara Lorene (Duane) Casper, and Rachel Guernsey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday May 4, 2021 at St. Lawrence O’toole Catholic Church in Mt. Hope Township Grant County, Wisconsin with burial to follow in the church Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Monday afternoon May 3, 2021 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the funeral home on Tuesday morning.
