Peter Rudolph Grunder, age 86 of Fennimore, died on Saturday July 18, 2015 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. Peter was born on October 31, 1928 in Indonesia the son of Carlos and Clara (Fluckiger) Grunder. He married Annagret Sager on Dec. 4, 1954 at the Cathedral in Berm Switzerland.
Peter was born in Indonesia and returned to Switzerland at age seven. In his early twenties, Peter went to Morroco to manage a farm for four years. While in Morroco, he met his future wife Annegret. Following their marriage, Peter and Anna immigrated to the United States and settled in the Mount Hope area where they farmed for ten years before purchasing a farm outside of Mt. Ida. They continued farming until moving to Fennimore in 1992. Peter was an active member of the Fennimore Masonic Lodge and the Zor Shriners and an avid reader who previously served on the Dwight T. Parker Library Board. Peter enjoyed traveling throughout the world and spoke seven different languages. He also enjoyed square dancing, downhill skiing, and watching ice hockey and football. Peter was a private person whose passion for adventure and love of family will forever be cherished.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Anna of Fennimore, three children; James (Cindy) Grunder of Wilmar, MN, Ann Grunder of Spokane Washington, and Madeleine (Kevin) Schroeder of Boise, Idao, two grandchildren; Kyle (Kristy) Grunder and Melissa (Evan) Wilson, two great-grandchildren Ella and Harper Wilson, and two step-great-grandchildren Taylor and Will Greene.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Uli and Urs Grunder, and three sister-in-laws.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday July 21, 2015 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore. Pastor Bud with the Fennimore United Methodist Church will be officiating. Friend and family may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home on Tuesday morning.
