Lois Jean Preston

Lois Jean (Brandt) Preston, age 95, of Fennimore, died on Thursday morning, Nov. 2, 2017, at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. Lois Jean was born on Sept. 12, 1922, on a farm east of Fennimore to Oscar and Marian Brandt. She attended McGhan School and at the age of 13, moved to Fennimore. Lois Jean attended grade school and Fennimore High School, graduating in 1940. She then attended Madison Vocational School for one year before being employed by Civil Service at United States Employment Service as a typist for two years.

Lois Jean married Sgt. Russell Preston at the home of her parents on June 21, 1943. Together, they lived in Los Angeles, CA for one year. While there, Lois Jean was employed by Occidental Life Insurance Co. Russell owned and operated the Chevrolet agency, Preston Motors in Fennimore for 37 years.

Lois Jean’s family, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her love. She was a loving and protective grandma and loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.   She also enjoyed traveling here and abroad having been to Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Tahiti and Jamaica on Chevrolet earned trips with Russell. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. She was a lifelong member of the Fennimore United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star beginning in 1947 and United Methodist Women.

Lois Jean is survived by her four children, Larry (Evelyn) of Janesville, Robert (JoAnn) of Troy, MI, David (Debi Thornton) of Lake Tomahawk and Janis (Harold) Schaefer of Fennimore, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and brother Richard (Patricia) of Fort Atkinson.

Lois Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Russell, on Sept. 13, 1984 and brother Arthur (Blanche) Brandt of Fennimore.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at the Fennimore United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Monday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Lois Jean Preston. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
