Leonard Cottingham

Leonard CottinghamFennimore – Leonard Cottingham, age 91 of Fennimore died on Saturday afternoon Nov. 15, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore. Leonard was born on June 16, 1923 in Mt. Ida Township, Grant Co., WI the son of Will and Harriet (Paul) Cottingham. He was united in marriage to June Loy on May 16, 1942 in Dodgeville.

Leonard graduated from Fennimore High School in 1940. He was part owner and cheese grader at Brinkman Cheese Company in Fennimore for 34 years and then worked 11 years as a custodian for Fennimore School District. Leonard was a member of the Fennimore United Methodist Church and the Fennimore Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards with family and friends, dancing, and cheering on the Badgers, Packers, and Fennimore Eagles. Fishing was one of Leonard’s greatest joys. He was always willing to drop everything at a moments notice and go fishing. He also looked forward to gathering asparagus and watercress in the spring, and walnuts in the fall. Leonard was a true gentleman whose love and endless patience will forever be cherished.

Leonard is survived by his two children; Gary (Carole) Cottingham of Geneva, IL, and Phyllis Wenzel of Waunakee, four grandchildren; Bret (Nancy) Brainerd, Staci (Cleven) McChesney, Marc (Fiancé Kelly Tarzwell) Cottingham, and Steven (Erin) Cottingham, two great grandchildren; Molly and Charlie McChesney and a step great grand-daughter; Abby Unten, four sister-in-laws; Sandy Cottingham of Green Bay, Marcheta Ross of St. Paul, MN, Audrey Loy of Livingston, and Charlotte Loy of Mount Horeb, and several special nieces & nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, wife June on Sept 5, 2013, brother Donald Cottingham, four brother-in-laws; Dean, Morse and Donald Loy, and Ed Ross, and three sister-in-laws; Phyllis, Mary Jeanette, and Margie Loy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday Nov. 21, 2014 at the Fennimore United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Prairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening Nov. 20, 2014 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Church on Friday morning.
