Leona Stepanek

20160217_105527-2Leona Stepanek, age 91, of Fennimore and formerly of Montfort, died on Friday morning Sept. 30, 2016 at the Fennimore Good Samaritan Society. Leona was born on Nov. 4, 1924 in Castle Rock Township Grant Co., WI the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Yanna) Zitka. She was united in marriage to Charles Stepanek on Sept. 28, 1943 at St. John Nepomuc Catholic Church in Castle Rock Township Grant Co., WI.

She and Charles farmed in rural Montfort for numerous years until their retirement in 1976. Leona was then employed at Rayovac in Fennimore for a few years. Leona was the proud manager of the Senior Citizens Meal Site in Montfort for a number of years. Leona loved working with all the people at the site and liked preparing the meals they served while doing volunteer work. She was structured and very hard working and enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and adored spending time with her family. She cherished her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Leona and her family wishes to extend a grateful appreciation to her extended family at the Fennimore Good Samaritan society for the care given throughout her years.

Leona is survived by her beloved three children and her daughter-in-law; Karen Stepanek of Rockton, IL and her children; Michael (Angie) Stepanek, Kathy (Mike) Peck, Lecia (Scott) Preston, daughter Donna (Joel) Maldonis of Beloit, WI and their children; Jeff (Shilain) Maldonis, Lauri (Brian) Berner, son Chuck (Deidre) Stepanek of Charlotte, NC and their children; Justin and Taylor Stepanek, son Dan (Shelly) Stepanek of Fennimore and their children; Ryan (Stacie) Stepanek, Mark (Amanda) Stepanek along with nine great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles on Dec. 5, 1996, son Ron on Sept. 28, 2014, brother Elmer Zitka.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday morning Oct. 8, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in St. John Nepomuc Catholic Church Cemetery in Castle Rock Township Grant Co, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at St. Mary Catholic Church Hall on Saturday. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
