LaVonne M. Carl

LaVonne CarlStitzer – LaVonne Mary Carl, age 66, of Stitzer passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at her residence. She was born on July 10, 1949 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the daughter of Leonard and Marian (Franzen) Carl. She graduated from Fennimore High School in 1967. She received a bachelor of science in nursing from University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (1976) and a master of science in medical surgical nursing from University of Texas – El Paso (1991).

During in her career as a registered nurse, she worked in a variety of medical surgical nursing settings, initially at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI and then later as a traveling nurse primarily in Colorado but she also ventured to Wyoming, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, and Florida. She preferred emergency room nursing. She taught nursing at Pueblo Community College and Trinidad State Junior College in Colorado. For the last ten years of her 35 year nursing career, she worked in long term care at Sinsinawa Mound Health Center, Sinsinawa Mound, WI.

She was very creative, artistic, and nearly a walking encyclopedia. She loved reading, history, humor, classic rock music, sewing (civil war period costumes) and painting (most anything but preferred birdhouses). She had an affinity for southwest culture in particular Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dare it be forgotten; she loved politics and quite naturally drifted to a particular political persuasion. Most of all she loved working as a registered nurse. It was her calling and fit right in with her generosity and compassion toward others. She would give a special shout out to all the “night nurses” out there.

She is survived by her daughter Erynne Smith of Castle Rock, CO; siblings Beverly Carl of Livingston, WI, Michael (Cindy) Carl and Marlin (Chris) Carl of Stitzer, WI, Colleen Carl of Jefferson City, MO, Barbara (Ron) Larson of Castle Rock, WI, Marvin (Tina) Carl and Rita (Vince) Lease of Fennimore, WI, Mitch (Darlene) Carl of Stitzer, WI, Janet Carl of Scottsdale, AZ, Michele Carl of Loveland, CO; 27 nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her grandparents William and Mary Franzen, Louis and Gladys Carl; parents, Leonard and Marian Carl; brother, Malcolm Edward, and two nephews, Thomas Gabaldon and Nicholas Carl.
