Laurel E. Mook

Laurel Mook (1)Woodman, WI-Laurel E. Mook, age 94, died on Friday morning Nov. 13, 2015 at the Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse. Laurel was born on July 25, 1921 in Clayton Township Crawford County, WI the son of Fred and Bessie (Huffman) Mook. He was united in marriage to Nelda Stimpson on Jan. 3, 1947.

Laurel graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1939 where he excelled in baseball, track and basketball. Laurel joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and proudly served 33 months overseas in the Pacific during WWII. His last stop was Okinawa before being honorably discharged in 1946. Laurel spent 27 years as a rural letter carrier in the Woodman, Millville, Boscobel and Werley areas before retiring in 1978. In addition to carrying the mail, Laurel also farmed starting in 1963. He eventually sold the farm to his son, but continued to lend a hand with chores until October of this year. Laurel enjoyed playing cards, going fishing and spending time outdoors.

Laurel is survived by his six children; Carl (Patti) Mook of Byron, IL, Dennis (Vicki) Mook of Woodman, Marsha (Leon) Mindham of Prairie du Sac, Bruce (Sandra) Mook of Verona, Brian (Deborah) Mook of Benton, WI, and Lisa Johnson of Dodgeville, 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and sister Mildred Cooper of Lancaster.

Laurel was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nelda in 2003, sisters; Belva Butler, and Lola Richason, and brothers; Raymond, Robert, Roland and Lawrence Mook.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M on Friday Nov. 20, 2015 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with burial of the cremated remains to follow in the Hermitage Cemetery in Mt. Hope with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Thursday Nov. 19, 2015 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Friday morning. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Laurel E. Mook.
