Kathryn A. (O’Flahrity) Borowski, age 69, of Solon, IA, died on Friday evening March 18, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Kathy was born on Oct. 24, 1946, to William and Mary Janet (Smith) O’Flahrity in Lancaster, WI. Kathy grew up in Fennimore, WI before moving to Milwaukee to pursue an education at Spenserian Business College. While in Milwaukee, Kathy met the love of her life and best friend Jerome (Jerry) Borowski when she called out to him, “Hey Big Boy.” Kathy later received a bachelor’s degree in business from Upper Iowa University.
Kathy had an older brother David, and two younger brothers Dennis and Dan. After her father William’s death, her mother Mary Janet married Dean Loy and Kathy gained two step-siblings, Paul Loy and Kim (Loy) Streif.
Kathy married Jerome (Jerry) Borowski on October 1, 1966. They were blessed to have three sons Brad, Brian and Bret.
Kathy and Jerry met many wonderful friends in Milwaukee before returning to Fennimore where Kathy worked at UW Platteville, CESA, Southwest Technical College, Madison College, Edgewood College and Kaplan College as a Financial Aid Officer. She also worked at Milprint and Boscobel Area Healthcare. After their children graduated from high school, Kathy and Jerry moved to Mineral Point, Davenport, IA and later to Solon, IA. Kathy and Jerry formed strong friendships everywhere they lived and enjoyed spending time with a wide circle of friends. Kathy continued to get together with her friends from high school as well as her current walking partners, Coffee Clutch, and Card Club, (you know who you are).
Everywhere Kathy went, she had a gift to make friends. Kathy brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. Even in the most difficult of times, she was able to laugh and find humor when others couldn’t (a blessing that helped everyone in her life right to her last moment on earth).
After a short and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, Kathy took her journey to heaven on March 18, 2016.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 50 years, Jerry Borowski of Solon, IA, three sons; Brad Borowski (fiancé Jennifer) of Rochester MN, Brian (Dorinda) Borowski of Waunakee WI, Bret (Kristi) Borowski of Byron MN, ten grandchildren; Samantha (Holly) Smith, Jordan, Brady, Ashley and Cortiney; Phoenix, Zander; Aidan, Macy and Mia; two brothers Dan (Karen) O’Flahrity of
Davenport, IA, Dennis O’Flahrity of Lancaster, WI; step-siblings Paul (Lisa) Loy and Kim (Dave) Streif, both of Fennimore, WI and several cousins and too many special friends to list.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, brother David O’Flahrity and stepfather Dean Loy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday March 24, 2016 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Fennimore. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening March 23, 2016 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Thursday morning.
