Doug Jenks

Montfort – Douglas C. Jenks, age 82, of Montfort, died peacefully on July 3, 2016 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Knoxville, TN. Douglas was born on June 17, 1934, in Mifflin Township, the son of Orval and Laura (Holmes) Jenks. He was raised on the family farm south of Cobb. Upon his graduation in 1952, he attended UW Madison in Agriculture short course. After graduation he returned to farm with his parents. On October 10, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart Mary Wienkes at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Highland, WI.

Doug and Mary farmed with his brother and father south of Rewey until 1966. They moved to Cobb to run a beef operation and also worked at the Canning Factory in Cobb and Tel-A-Market in Fennimore and Dodgeville sorting cattle and pigs. He enjoyed auctioneering at the sales barns and ran his own auction service for several years. In 1972, they purchased the farm where they lived for 44 years in Wingville Township.

Doug enjoyed hunting, bowling, collecting antique irons, cameras and cheering on the Packers and Badgers. Dancing every Friday night with friends at Huckleberry’s in Prairie du Chien was one of Doug and Mary’s favorite past times. Doug loved working outdoors. He enjoyed working in his garage and and building wood working projects. Doug was known for his sense of humor and his love of making individuals laugh.

Doug is survived by his seven children; Debbie (Dave) Winkers of Fennimore, Susan (Terry) Vavricka of Cobb, Bev Heiman of Pewaukee, Tom (Sandy) Jenks of Cobb, Brian (Faith) Jenks of Green Bay, Ken Jenks of Green Bay and Lori (Bill) Vanni of Sahuarita, AZ, 16 grandchildren; David Winkers, Dan (Shannon) Winkers, Doug Winkers, Melanie (Mark) Cuper, Justin (Jenny) Moon, Jaime Vavricka, TJ (Cassie) Vavricka, Jason (Nicole) Heiman, Chad Heiman, Christine Albiter (Finance Josh Stedman), Eric Jenks, Kurt (Daisy) Jenks, Jordan Jenks, Nicole Jenks, Mindy (Aaron) Cadotte and Tracy (Kelly) Gunderson, and 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews along with special dancing friends Carol and Jerry Bertram.

Doug was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary, his parents, brothers, Dale (Doris) and Junior (Carol) Jenks and sisters, Marion (Harold) Grunewald, Jen (Don) Nagel-Olson and Virginia (John) Weaver.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday July 8th, 2016 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Montfort with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Cobb. Father Jim Murphy will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Thursday July 7th, 2016 at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort and from 10:00 – 10:30 A.M. on Friday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a memorial fund is being established in loving memory of Doug Jenks.
