Betty Lou Spoerle

Betty Lou SpoerleMadison – Betty Lou Spoerle, age 79, died unexpectedly on Mon. April 21, 2014 at her residence in Madison.  Betty Lou was born on Jan. 18, 1935 in Fennimore, WI the daughter of James and Madeleine (Cordts) Spraggon. She married Richard Spoerle on Nov. 29, 1958.

Following graduation from Fennimore High School, Betty Lou moved to Madison and worked for Farmers Mutual Insurance.  Betty Lou then stayed home and raised her family including Michael Everson who became an extended member of the family. When her children were grown, Betty Lou worked for 10 years in food service at Huegel Elementary School in Madison until her retirement. Betty Lou enjoyed spending time with family and friends at weekend cookouts, swimming in the backyard pool, camping at Fish Lake, bowling, watching the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers, and visiting the Wisconsin State Fair and Milwaukee Zoo. She also loved caring for the family dogs, reading, knitting, and going out to dinner for prime rib. Betty Lou was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother whose love for family will forever be cherished.  A special thank you to St. Mary’s Care Center and the Visiting Angels for their care of mom.

Betty Lou is survived by her beloved husband Richard, children Jeff Spoerle of Cottage Grove, Brenda Spoerle of McFarland, and Cindy Spoerle of Prairie du Sac, four grandchildren; Shane and Travis Spoerle, Steven Van Gilder, and Crystal (Mike) Wooldridge, two great-grandchildren; Paeton Wooldridge and Ethan Van Gilder, and son-in-law Matt Van Gilder of Jacksonville, FL.

Betty Lou was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kathy Van Gilder on Feb. 21, 2014, and brother James Spraggon Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday April 26, 2014 at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with burial to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Montfort.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home in Fennimore on Saturday morning.
