Muscoda, WI-Bernadette Cummings, age 89, died on Thursday morning Oct. 2, 2014 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. Bernadette was born on Aug. 24, 1925 in Castle Rock Township, Grant Co., WI the daughter of Gustave and Emma (Prochaska) Nowak. Bernadette was united in marriage to Leonard Cummings on June 12, 1948 in Castle Rock.
After high school, Bernadette taught in rural schools for a few years before attending UW-Platteville to obtain her degree in primary education. She then taught in Milwaukee area parochial schools for 15 years and in Milwaukee public schools for 18 years. Bernadette retired after 33 years in education. After the death of her husband Leonard, Bernadette moved back to the farm in Castle Rock to be with her family.
Bernadette is survived by her siblings; Alberta Sullivan of Madison, James Nowak of Milwaukee, Rita Edge of Montfort, Joe (Joann) Nowak of Marion, KS, Pat Nowak of Grafton along with several special nieces, nephews and friends.
Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard on March 24, 1991, three brothers; Anthony, George, and Thomas Nowak, sister Mary Jane Margis, sister-in-law Doris Nowak, and two brother-in-laws; James Sullivan and Lyle Edge.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday Oct. 4, 2014 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Castle Rock Township Grant Co., WI. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday afternoon. Entombment will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday afternoon Oct. 6, 2014 at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum in Manitowoc, WI.
